ABOUT
The Nit
My name is Martin Elsborg, and I’m the human element behind NitPower. Born in Denmark in 1981, I spent years working as a visual artist and abstract painter before music became my main focus. When I'm not writing songs, I run a small webshop. Music has been a massive part of my life for as long as I can remember—though for a long time, purely as a listener. I used to spend hours studying lyrics and singing along to my favorite albums. My foundation was built on the heavyweights of the grunge era: Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and everything in between. For the longest time, it never even occurred to me that I could make music of my own. I had a broken acoustic guitar sitting around for nearly 15 years, but I rarely touched it and only knew a handful of chords.

NitPower
Back around 2020, while I was still working as a visual artist, I stumbled upon one of the early AI tools for generating instrumental music. The tech back then was rough, but it was enough to spark something inside me—I could suddenly hear full melodies coming together. Thinking back, that wasn't technically my very first attempt at making music. Years earlier, I chopped up beats to create this weird electro-techno-grunge hybrid under the name "MuteMYX." I even uploaded two tracks to MySpace, though sadly, those are lost to the internet archive now. Playing with that early AI sparked an idea: I wanted to assemble an entire album. I named the project NitPower—"The Nit" being me, and the machine being the "Power." I came up with track titles and settled on an album name: Ballet on Broken Bones. The album was briefly live on Spotify, but I quickly pulled it down from all platforms. A new idea had taken hold: it would be infinitely cooler if I actually learned to play the music myself. So, I picked up the guitar and started teaching myself how to play. Fast-forward a few years: after getting lost in my own creative world for a while, I decided to check back in on AI tools out of pure curiosity. The original platform I used was gone, but the newer ones were on a completely different level. At first, I had zero intention of feeding my own guitar ideas into the software—I was just messing around for fun. But eventually, reality kicked in. I realized I was never going to record a full album completely on my own, mainly because I have no interest in being a stage performer. I just love the process of creating music. So this is basically the story of how NitPower started. It’s important for me to stress that I don’t pretend to be the band, nor do I pretend that I did everything—because I didn't. But without my creative input, it wouldn't be the project it is today. I’m not doing this to make money; I do it out of pure passion. I genuinely believe these songs are good, and I’m sharing them with you because I think some of you will really enjoy them.

The Songs
Not every song follows the same path. Some start as a random melody in my head, others as a standalone guitar riff, or simply a title that sparks an idea. You can read the specific story behind each track—and my exact contribution to it—in the lyrics section of every song (at some point). If you read this far, I can tell you that I´m currently working on the 2 album. On the first album, AI handled most of the music. The second album will feature more of my original ideas — otherwise, it all starts to sound the same.
